Hi! I’m alexandra!
I am a provisional member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors and am currently completing a Master of Counselling at the University of Auckland, while working privately with clients.
Before training as a counsellor, I worked for more than a decade in employment and commercial law across both large firm, boutique and in-house environments. I understand firsthand that working in professional services can be as demanding as it is rewarding. I know how many of us have experienced the pressures of litigation and large deals, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, difficult workplace relationships, heavy workloads, burnout, secondary trauma from clients’ experiences, navigating mistakes, and balancing professional and personal life.
While helping clients resolve legal issues was deeply fulfilling, my favourite part of working in law was being part of a team and supporting colleagues through the pressures the profession - I always had a knack for knowing who had nipped off for a walk around the block or a sneaky bathroom cry. It was during this time that I began to realise how naturally counselling and supportive conversations had become part of my work and relationships, which ultimately led me to begin my counselling training.
Outside of counselling, I am also a mum of three young children. I understand that the path to parenthood, the early months of parenting, and the ongoing realities of family life are not always easy. I am particularly interested in supporting parents experiencing challenges relating to fertility, pregnancy, postnatal depression and anxiety, relationships, identity, overwhelm, and the many competing pressures that can accompany this stage of life.
During my studies and beyond, I want to be the person in your corner, supporting you to work through any challenges you may face, help you foster resilience, and encourage you to reach your goals, whatever they may be.
