Hi! I’m alexandra!

I am currently studying towards a Masters of Counselling at the University of Auckland. With the support of the faculty, I offer independent counselling services.

My background is in employment and commercial law, where I have over ten years experience in advisory work, dispute resolution and litigation. I worked in both large firm and boutique environments, and know that working in professional services can be as tough as it is rewarding - I’ve been there! Most of us have experienced the pressures of navigating complex cases, challenging clients, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, difficult working relationships, managing the fallout from mistakes, struggles with workload and stress, secondary trauma from our clients’ traumatic situations, and the tricky juggle with home life.

While working with my clients to help resolve their legal issues always brought me an enormous sense of fulfilment, my favourite part of working in law was supporting my peers and mentoring junior lawyers, especially one who had nipped off for a walk around the block or a sneaky bathroom cry. It was a revelation when my supervisor suggested I might be counselling my colleagues and clients as much as I was giving legal advice. This was the catalyst for me taking the leap to begin my counselling studies.

Outside of counselling, I am a mum of three young children. I understand that the path to parenthood, those demanding early months, and the day to day reality of parenting isn't always easy. With this background, I am passionate about supporting parents with their journey, whether they are struggling with fertility and antenatal issues, post natal depression and anxiety, difficult relationships with children, partners or wider families, or the many other pressures that come with this territory.

During my studies and beyond, I want to be the person in your corner, supporting you to work through any challenges you may face, help you foster resilience, and encourage you to reach your goals, whatever they may be.
